The motor runs better now that the carb cleaner has been run through and sat for awhile. I got everything back together and started it up. (Kind of went with replacing the stud bolt) I had no choice but to disassemble the pump housing to replace the stud bolt and changed the gaskets while I was at it. While doing so, one of the stud bolts that holds the pump housing to the lower unit snapped. I located a new impeller and put things back together. The impeller definately was old and required replacement. I popped open the lower unit and opened up the water pump housing. He was correct the water pump was not pumping hardly it any water. The motor definately runs but, really could use a new spark plug and a good carb cleaning or Jet Replacement. I added fresh fuel/oil with some carb cleaner and started it up in a bucket of water. I brought it home and drained the fuel tank (internal) because the fuel smelled worse than Turpentine. After sitting so long I knew the Impeller needed replacement. However, he did mention that it was not pumping water. It has been stored in his garage for the last 8 years and was in running condition that last time he used it. My wife's uncle gave me a 1989 Suzuki 4 HP 2 stroke outboard a few months ago. Maybe someone can enlighten me on something I may have missed.
